New York duck hunting and goose hunting is king along Lake Ontario. We have
seen hundreds and on occasion thousands of ducks and geese on Sandy Pond in front of
our Lake Ontario cottages
through out the year including duck hunting and goose hunting seasons. Duck
and goose hunting from the cottage
shore is reserved for our guests. There are more kinds of ducks than I can
name with mallards, wood ducks, bufflehead and teal being the most common.
The geese are mostly Canada geese. The geese fly out of Sandy Pond in
the early AM to feed at local fields and return to Sandy Pond in the late AM. At mid afternoon
the geese fly out again, one flock at a time, to return
to the fields. Permission to waterfowl hunt, especially for geese, on private lands
is easier to obtain
then deer hunting permission. Many of the wildlife management areas, which
are open to hunting and along Lake Ontario, hold a lot of local and migrating
ducks and geese. There are easily accessible boat launches at some
wildlife management areas (WMA,s.) Boats
or canoes are a must for hunting ducks and geese along Lake Ontario. There has been a
nuisance goose season for the month of September during recent years. New York duck hunting and goose hunting seasons for
2008 have not yet been set.
Retriever dogs are allowed at the cottages during
duck hunting season. For details on bring your hunting dog to the Duck
Blind cottage please click here.
